Do you have some chairs that result to be more simple and bland than a pumpkin and you want to cheer them up? We are talking about cheering up in a way that stays for the memory, because you have never imagined that your living room suddenly became a place that everybody admires. Now people can admire the emperor, empress and concubines that Concha Barón (www.conchabaron.es) has painted in a tapestry which told nothing before. Now, this painter has made it talkative. And she does the same with everything that her paintbrushes touch. The list is long.
Concha Barón has a Degree in Fine Arts, specifically in Graphic Design and Printmaking. She spent six months in Italy taking painting classes which were dedicated to silk and textile silkscreen. When she came back to her home Seville, she started a wild investigation about a discipline in what she has been working non-stop for more than ten years. Concha Barón is known because of her textile and silk pictures, which now also attach home.
In her studio-atelier she makes foulards and scarfs for men and women (best valuated are handkerchiefs). Also brooches, necklaces, woolen scarfs, belts, capes, jackets and kimonos. She started to make the Eastern piece of clothing five years ago, much before they were so trendy. First, the piece is tailored and then the painting comes. Silk painting is very colorful, vivid and full of life.
But besides painting silk, Concha Barón makes cotton textile painting, for what the customer will place the order ten days in advance and will have to provide the raw material. Her creativity is captured in tablecloths, napkins, towels, cushions, curtains, aprons, shopping and beach bags, bags that you can fill with lavender, bedcovers, headboards… “I have had all kinds of requests, above all for tablecloths. Marsh birds, partridges with its babies, blackbirds speckled with bougainvillea”.
I draw inspiration from nature in particular, because I’m used to the field. When I was a child, I filled blanks with pictures of horses. People come to my atelier, they see what I have and they choose, but most of them have their own idea and I capture it, like a tablecloth with acorns for a country house, insects and plants. Besides the hand-made linoleum board pattern, I make textile design to print digitally, depending on demand. Customers can choose any kind of textile: twill, poplin, chiffon, canvas or silk”.
Concha Barón can be found at her studio-atelier in Muro de los Navarros street and at the Alameda de Sevilla market the last sunday of each month ( in front of Casa de las Sirenas). Also in her webpage, Facebook (https://es-es.facebook.com/conchabaronpintura), Twitter and Instagram. To present some of her pieces of clothing, we have count with four exceptional models: Cristina Molina, Marta y Nicolás Velasco and Loreto Blanco. We also had the invaluable collaboration of a five months greyhound called Felipe and Luke, a Jack Russell that didn’t say a “woof”.
