It said that the older you are, the hardest to find a swimsuit which makes you feel comfortable at the pool or on the beach. I have too much here, I have too little there… That’s why it is such a chance that Oyster (www.oysterstyle.com) has appeared in the Sevillian market. It’s a Spanish label, from Seville, with international vocation and with Concha Muñoz Ortega in charge. Her goal is that her desings fit perfectly into women of her age.
She has just arrived from the Parisian Mode City fair and she is delighted. Her product, a product with a very high quality, has pleased so much that a Belgian dealer has kept the collection she was presenting, Summer 2016, to sell it in the Benelux. In her atelier located in Colombia Street, 10, acc, local 1, in the neighbourhood of El Porvenir, Concha remembers her beginnins. “I started by making swimsuits to my daughters and after working on my own for a while, I took the plunge and created Oyster”.
“At first we went with a little suitcase to Madrid, Barcelona. We worked hugely, but that way made step by step and with caution brought us here. Two seasons ago we opened our online shop: www.oysterstyle.com and we sell very well all around Spain, but mainly in Madrid, Asturias, Galicia, the Basque country, Valencia. In Spain, besides the atelier we are in Nandaiasa and SamaniSamani.
Oyster, which also count on an infantile line of work, Oyster Mini, to boys and girls until 14 years; another for men, which has been launched this season, and another for pregnant still in mind; manufactures throughout Spain. “The ateliers are in Barcelona province, were the skilled labour is. The fabric is Italian, a great quality lycra. Each piece of clothing, both swimwear and accessories (long trousers, robes, pareos and tulle dresses) wear a tag which says made in Spain, how it sounds”.
Concha tells me that when she designs she does not follow trends neither in color nor in shape. “I follow my own aesthetic sense, and regarding colours it is true that I am very good combining them. I am very skilled for that matter”. Maybe the same skill she had when baptizing her label. Oyster is the name of the public transport card in London, and also the name of a mollusc with a pearl inside, which makes certain sense even though she never thought in an foreign name for her label. Circumstances made her being international from the very beginning.
The shape can vary in order to fit into the body of each woman and to make her feel sure. The next season XL size has been included, besides the optional cups, in a collection where the protagonist are mustard, mauve and petrol blue, besides the tulle not only in accessories, but as an ornament for the swimwear. But black and white are two basics which never can be missed in Oyster collections. Said by Concha, her creator.
