Today it is not like some time ago when brides delegated to their mothers, sisters and some of them (and that’s a difficult matter) to their mothers-in-law, the last decision about the wedding dress. Now the girls come with several masters in design, fabrics, accessories and protocol. And the latest on these topics is an emphatic: “I want to dress bride”. But a smashing bride, no coolness; that is, nothing appear the happiest day of your life with a clone of that dress that you wore to the prom, the coming-out or your best friend’s wedding.

Paloma Cerezal tells me in her workshop at Plaza de la Concordia, 3 (telephone 954 22 51 09). She tells me with the composure that gives belong to a family of masters of needle and thimble, and be an expert for legacy and trajectory in the matters to create the most important (presumably) dress in a woman’s life. “All of them come very informed and I show them designs, fabrics and ornaments; I make sketches and advise tailoring depending of her style and, of course, appearance”.

“Yes, the veil has back, because the bride has returned to the classic and the veil is subtle, romantic and it suits a lot. In addition, it is very exciting the moment of the ceremony when the groom lifts it. But, sure, the makeup and the hairstyle should look good with the veil, because on the contrary, we destroy everything. The lifelong tulle has changed for a medium tulle or a silk tulle. The shawl that used to be the star has stopped to shine”.

But there are other changes. Now, long sleeves, which were put aside of the bridge dress for a while, has come back, the same that the prominence of the back of the dress.  Paloma Cerezal, who continues the family tradition of going to dress up the bride to her home the day of the wedding, still going on with the news. “The crepe of natural silk is trend, which I usually interline to avoid the loss of the movement or cover with muslin to make it steamier. Anyways, there is who still likes the Mikado silk and a three meters tail”.

“Other of the novelties is an entire dress and a skirt above, which can be brocade or smooth, with built-tail. The ornaments are still being silver or copper, besides the hand-embroidered lace with metallic gemstones. Headbands continue booming, especially those made with wax flowers, usually acquired in antiques shops or made to order by different designers”. Paloma Cerezal, who you can find in Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/paloma.cerezal?fref=ts), has already opened her collections of First Communion.

“My customers are usually girls of the brides that I have dressed up and the dresses are or the typical of Swiss organdie or of plumetti whit colored sashes so fashionable”. In addition to their daily sewing of coats, suits or cocktail dresses, the godmothers and the sisters of the bridge still trust in her. “Now the godmothers are usually ladies that take care of themselves, so I made dresses that mark their silhouette. The black is not the most appropriate color but I made some very elegant in dark blue. And the sisters request me above all overalls, where the back is the focus”.
